HURRICANE UPDATE: Due to the fact that most communication has been wiped out by Hurricane Matthew, we've received very little information out of Jeremie. We do know that the destruction was overwhelming and the city has been "cut off" because of washed out roads and bridges. Many people have contacted me in the last couple of days wondering how they can help. We have a man on the ground that will be flying in next week to assess the needs in the orphanage and get word back to us. As always, cash is the quickest and easiest way to help in the short term. In the future, we will have opportunities to travel to Jeremie and help with rebuilding. EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE GOES DIRECTLY TO THE ORPHANAGE FOR FOOD, MEDICAL CARE, AND BASIC SUPPLIES. Restoration Alliance is a completely volunteer-run organization with zero overhead. Any assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated. Just click on the link to the right to donate. All gifts are tax-deductible.
Another Great Trip in the Books!
A team of 6 made the trek to Jeremie, Haiti on January 10 for a week of relationship building and work at Darlene's Orphanage. In the course of the week, we were able to meet with Dr. Cesar and get a medical update on the kids, go to the market in Marfranc to buy food, build a new table for the little ones to eat on, build an examination table for medical exams, and spend a lot of time just playing with the kids.
The thing that I love most about our trips is the opportunity to expand our friendships and experience different aspects of the Haitian culture. This trip was certainly no exception! On Thursday, we were invited to visit a country school where our friend, Audrenne, serves as a teacher. She was telling us that her school was very poor and didn't have adequate school supplies. After obtaining a list, we purchased supplies and delivered them to the school.
There was a catch, though...
The school was located on the top of a mountain! A river crossing and a 4-mile hike later, we were at the school! I'm convinced that the Kreyol word for "angel" is Audrenne! She makes this trek EVERY DAY as well as working full-time at the guest house where we stay!
God has certainly blessed us by allowing us to go to such a beautiful place and connect with such beautiful people! The work we're doing there IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

Tentative Dates for our Next Trip
We'll be going back to Jeremie, Haiti in January, 2015!
I'll be leading a group of 6-8 travellers from January 10 - 17, 2015. During our time there, we'll have LOTS of interaction with the kids, help with maintenance projects around the orphanage, help out with the Haitian Health Foundation, and enjoy the incredible Haitian hospitality of our hosts, Bette & Edwin! If you are interested in going, please contact us. Space is limited. Depending on flight prices, it looks like the cost will be around $2200 per person (all inclusive) for the entire time. Dates will be set as soon as lodging arrangements are confirmed. If interested, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
501(c)(3) Application has been Approved!
At the end of April, we received our positive determination from the IRS designating Restoration Alliance as an "official" 501(c)(3) not-for-profit! Please keep us in mind when you consider giving to charitable organizations. Also, if you have donated to us in the past but did not include those gifts in your past tax filing, you may be eligible to deduct those gifts in the future. Please consult your tax professional for more information.
